media centre: getty images wins award for communications strategy of the year

Getty Images, the world's leading creator and distributor of still imagery, footage and multi-media products, has won “Communications Strategy of the Year for “Organisations with fewer than 5000 Employees” in the Employee Benefits Awards for their innovative communications “MyChoice”.

Getty Images was named the unanimous winner after beating Carlsberg UK, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Norwich Union Healthcare and Kwik-Fit Financial Services to take the award.

The judges commented that “Getty Images took a slightly risky approach with some of its humour, namely using an obituary to promote life insurance….this entry proved that if an employer gets the message right for its workforce, it can have a major impact.”

In January 2007, Getty Images selected Thomsons Online Benefits to introduce MyChoice, an online flexible benefits programme designed to reflect Getty Images' fun culture with a particular emphasis on innovative communications to raise the profile of benefits within the organisation.

Getty Images worked closely with Thomsons Online Benefits to create a unique brand that engaged employees using a variety of communications including a ‘Route 65' brochure that showed a roadmap to 65 years, with the milestones in between, demonstrating that a pension is a long term investment, and a unique magazine style description of the benefits on offer. This was backed up with Thomsons Online Benefits self-service web based technology “Perquisite™” which allows employees to view their Total Reward Statement and select benefits relating to their lifestyle. In addition, employees attended a benefits fair, one to ones and group presentations.

As a result of the launch Getty Images now places great importance on benefits as a recruitment tool and even believe the rejection rate of job offers is as little as 5%. In addition, 88% of employees logged in during first enrolment which is remarkable considering many employees work in the field.

Lesley Brady, Senior Director, Human Resources, Getty Images commented:  “We're delighted Getty Images' MyChoice programme has been recognised at this year's Awards.  It is testament to our truly comprehensive package, devised with the expertise of Thomsons Online Benefits, which has undoubtedly provided our employees with greater confidence, flexibility and peace of mind.”

Michael Whitfield, Chief Executive Officer at Thomsons Online Benefits commented: “Getty Images' rightful recognition at the Employee Benefits Awards reflects TOB and Getty Images being brilliant together; it is a just reward for the great teamwork shown by both businesses in producing MyChoice. It is a great example of “who dares wins” and I am particularly excited that the ‘Route 65' pensions campaign clearly engaged their dynamic workforce and, for us, its real proof that pensions and flex don't have to be boring anymore!”
