Air France pilots to go ahead with strike Pilots for European carrier Air France have decided to continue with plans to go on strike over proposed retirement rules.
The strike has been called over a change to the retirement age of pilots in the company, allowing them to retire at 65 as opposed to 60 - something the French government is discussing as a reform for the country on a wider scale.
However, pilots believe that the staff will be forced to work for longer hours or will receive lower pensions, despite the government promising that the planned change would only be voluntary.
The carrier believes that half of its short and medium-haul flights will be grounded, as well as around 30 per cent of its long-haul flights, according to the Associated Press.
Air France runs flights to 183 destinations in 98 countries, with 1,700 daily flights, 383 aeroplanes in its fleet and just under 75,000 employees across its company and subsidiaries.
