Argos workers vote to take strike action
Distribution workers at Argos have voted overwhelmingly to strike in a dispute over pay, it has been reported.

Around 67 per cent of those who took part in the ballot voted for strike action, which will see staff at four key regional distribution centres walk out for 24 hours and could escalate to a four-day stoppage.

The UK's biggest union Unite is now warning the Home Retail Group, which owns Argos, that unless they receive news on pay and reward issues then it will face severe disruption to their customer distribution service.

Unite national secretary Jennie Formby said: "A below inflation wage offer is a pay cut and this is totally unacceptable to our members."

Meanwhile, the Times reported that Argos has performed well among high street retailers, despite the economic downturn.

A trading statement last week stated that sales were level with the same time last year in spite of the credit crunch and fall in consumer confidence.
