Benefits of occupational pension schemes 'have always been the same' The benefits of occupational pension schemes have always been the same for employees, but employers are now "less paternalistic", according to The Pension Advisory Service (TPAS).
It has been claimed by the organisation that the pension schemes have always offered benefits to companies which help them keeping their staff.
Des Hamilton, technical director of TPAS, said: "The benefits of running an occupational pension schemes has always been the benefit that you have, or may have, in recruitment, retention and reward for your employees."
He added that historically, employers were more paternalistic but now there is "less of that attitude from employers to employees" and a lot of the schemes were introduced in "a different era when there were different attitudes".
TPAS is an independent organisation which does not operate for profit. It provides free guidance and information on a range of pension schemes such as state, company and personal schemes.
Final salary benefit pension schemes are to see a greater fall soon, with a growth in scheme closures to existing members as large employers look to lose their remaining liability, it has been revealed.
