Changes to employer childcare announced
Changes in the registration of childcare across the UK will come into force as of September and will be important to employers, Ofsted has said.

The watchdog commented that this is due to tax and national insurance contribution (NIC) exemptions for employer-provided support which can only be used by employees using registered or approved childcare.

If their childcare does not meet the criteria, the employer will have to repay taxes that both parties would have "saved" as they would have failed to correctly use the pay-as-you-earn scheme.

Two approved categories of care include approved foster carers - excluding the carer's child - and the Ministry of Defence accreditation scheme for service personnel abroad.

The employer's guide to childcare currently available is, however, not yet up to date and so employers are asked to look to the WTC5 - the employee's guide to childcare and working tax credit - click here to read it.

The recommendations from Ofsted were announced after last week's Safeguarding Children review, a report released every three years that aims to deliver a high quality of care and support to national children's services.
