EEF calls for flexible working delay
The manufacturers' organisation, the EEF, is calling on the government to allow employers time to become accustomed to new legislation before extending the rights of employees to work flexibly.

Representing 6,000 companies in the UK, the EEF is concerned that an extension of flexible working rights would inevitably see an increase in the number of people requesting the right.

The organisation fears that this rise would lead to bosses denying staff with legitimate reasons for working flexibly from doing so, Employeebenefits.com reports.

Peter Schofield, the director of employment and legal affairs at the EEF, said more time is needed for bosses to get to grips with the current situation before further action.

"Whilst manufacturers have seen the benefits from the introduction of flexible working, the last thing they need now is to have to consider more requests. They need to be given time before this right is extended to more employees," he told the site.

The EEF provides engineering and manufacturing support to firms across the country.
