Employers 'pressure' workers to retire
A new survey has revealed that ageism may still remain in the UK workplace with many people feeling pressured to retire.

The study by AXA found that 60 per cent of British retirees left work before the age of 65, with 20 per cent claiming to have felt pressured from their employer.

Steve Folkard, head of pensions and savings policy at AXA, said: "Despite legislation making it unlawful to discriminate against workers on the grounds of age, our study clearly shows that some employees are still being coerced into early retirement,"

Employees approaching retirement ought to be aware of their rights and employers should review their retirement policies, he added.

In related news, Jason Clarke, spokesperson for Halifax, said that it is "worth thing about long-term savings in terms of pensions".

Mr Clarke suggested that although it may not be the best-performing asset, a pension is likely to be "one of the safest".
