Equalities Bill 'could lead to positive discrimination' The first draft of the Equalities Bill could allow firms to positively discriminate between job candidates in a bid to close the gender pay gap.
Harriet Harman, the equalities minister, announced that employers random capital will be forced to disclose pay structures.
Proposals will also outlaw prejudice through the provision of goods and services on the basis of age that aims to eradicate age discrimination.
It is intended that by attempting to increase fairness and diversity, Britain's position in the global economy will also be improved.
"A society which is equal and fair is one which is more at ease with itself," Ms Harman commented.
Previous discrimination laws will be brought under one piece of legislation, which should reduce the amount of administration that businesses have to undertake.
The BBC reports that the Tories are pushing for the legislation to also include compulsory pay audits for firms found guilty of gender discrimination at employment tribunals.
