Irish congress of unions to enter into new pay talks
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) has voted in favour of starting negotiations for a new national wage agreement.

ICTU is looking for pay increases which are at least in line with inflation and also wants improved pensions and protection to agency workers.

Any agreement reached by the ICTU, which represents more than 50 unions, could result in an increase in pay and employee reward for workers across Ireland.

David Begg, general secretary of ICTU, said: "I know when somebody is taking me for a ride and this is what is happening in our economy at the moment - it just cannot go on."

The union will now enter into talks with the government and employers in the hope of securing better pay deals for their members.

ICTU represents and campaigns on behalf of 832,000 working people and currently has 56 unions affiliated with it, from north and south of the border.
