Media not effective when getting pension message across
The media is not very effective when trying to get the message about state pensions across to members of the public, according to The Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS).

Because the topic is not very exciting, it does not get very much coverage in the media, said TPAS, which provides information and pensions consultancy.

Des Hamilton, technical director of TPAS: "One of the big problems when the government instigate change is that it is dependent on the news media for getting the word out there and it's not very effective in that respect. It's not the most exciting thing for news media to cover so it doesn't get that coverage that is needed."

He added that even when pension changes are covered, it is "still not enough to get the message home to people".

TPAS is a not for profit organisation which provides free information and guidance to people about their pension schemes.
