Met police HR chief 'opposes institutional racism review' The metropolitan police has been urged to concentrate on making the policing environment more attractive rather than reviewing "institutional racism", according to its human resources chief.
Martin Tiplady stated that two reviews had already taken place following recommendations by the Macpherson inquiry after the death of Stephen Lawrence 15 years ago, according to a Personnel Today report.
Despite this, the Association of Muslim Police (AMP) has called for a new review after 20 out of the 43 police forces in England and Wales refused to take part in a survey into potential discrimination against black, Asian and Muslim officers.
"I don't know why some of my colleagues did not fill out the [AMP] questionnaire. But there is no need for high profile matters around at the moment to drive the view for another 'institutional racism' review," Mr Tiplady, told the news provider.
Earlier in the year police officers voted by a considerable majority to restore their right to strike, following a row with the home secretary over a staged 2.5 per cent rise, which was deemed unacceptable by the Police Federation.
