NHS agrees new employee benefits for ill staff NHS employers and trade unions have agreed a new employee benefits system for workers retiring due to ill health.
There will now be a two-tier system in place for workers having to retire because of sickness, with people who are unlikely to be able to work again receiving more benefits.
Richard Parker, staff-side chair of the review, said: "NHS staff will benefit as the emphasis is for NHS managers to communicate with staff when they are off sick and seek to offer them ways and means of getting back to work."
He added that when a return to work is not possible for an employee, the pension provisions will "support those staff who will not be able to work again".
The deal comes into force today following a three month consultation period on the proposals.
Under the deal, there have also been provisions set out in order to support staff who are ill are supported properly.
The NHS recently announced that more than one million members of staff are now signed up to its electronic payroll project.
Conversion courses are currently attracting a host of new teaching candidates across the country as teachers seek a career change, it has been stated.
