NHS scheme unable to determine claims for equal pay The job evaluation scheme of the NHS, Agenda for Change, was confirmed as unreliable in providing evidence of a job's previous value, it has emerged.
Personnel Today recently reported the case of an Employment Appeal Tribunal which judged Ashford and St Peter's Hospital NHS Trust as right in its hiring of an independent expert to compare two different jobs.
The result confirmed that the onus was on the claimant to prove that jobs deserved equal pay by demonstrating that both had equal value.
Speaking to the news provider, Rachael Heenan, an employment partner at Beachcroft, said: "The decision makes it more difficult for claimants to bring successful equal value claims that simply rely on the banding of their roles, and their comparators' roles, under Agenda for Change."
Last month, the Health Service Journal noted that a local authority pension can be transferred to an NHS scheme, with Agenda for Change pricing many NHS posts higher than the local authority equivalent.
