Oil refinery strike ends, talks to resume Unite trade union members ended their strike at the Grangemouth oil refinery in Scotland at 07:00GMT today and talks to resume the stand-off over pensions are set to continue.
Business secretary John Hutton has now called on the warring factions, Unite and Ineos, to sit down and end the deadlock.
Problems arose between the union and the company over its decision to end its non-contributory final-salary pension and replace it with a defined contribution scheme.
Mr Hutton is hoping that a solution can now be reached soon and any further strike action avoided.
"Now is the time for Unite and Ineos to get back to the negotiating table. This is what I will be saying at my meetings and Acas [Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service] stands ready. This is where this dispute must end."
The strike brought a halt to almost half of the UK's North Sea oil production.
Acas aims to improve employment relations and offers advice and training to achieve this goal.
