One in three 'put pressure on ill staff'
A new report today has suggested that one in three employers are putting unnecessary pressure on staff to work during their time off sick, it has emerged.

The Healthy Working Report by the HSA found that 35 per cent of human resources professionals are told to monitor emails and engage in several basic duties during their time off.

Head of sales at the HSA Richard Halley said that in the current economic climate, many companies were trying to get the most out of workers.

Mr Halley added: "However, this should not be done at the expense of employee health and welfare.

"Companies will only battle through an economic downturn with the support of their employees, and their wellbeing should therefore be of paramount importance."

The HSA was established in 1922 in order to keep hospitals afloat, changing its direction in 1948 after the formation of the NHS to provide its Health Cash Plan.
