Online recruitment down in July
An internet index for employment has revealed that online recruitment has continued its fall into July, it has been revealed.

Monster.co.uk's employment index for last month registered a three-point drop to 174 last month, with the legal sector taking the biggest hit with a drop of 45 points.

Hugo Sellert, head of economic research for Monster Worldwide, noted that the British economy's slowdown was having a profound effect on the availability of jobs as the labour market was getting smaller in the face of enhanced financial pressures.

He continued: "Given this backdrop, it is not surprising that online recruitment is now moderating, with fewer job offerings than a year ago in areas such as finance, retail and technology."

Mr Sellert did note, however, that vacancies are above levels available during last summer and that healthcare, tourism and education were still providing "elevated" demand alongside Northern Ireland on a whole.

It was also noted this week that the credit crisis had caused many employers to outsource IT management through recruitment agencies.
