Oscars in doubt due to writers strike This year's Oscars ceremony is in doubt after the ceremony for the Golden Globes was cancelled due to actors agreeing not to cross picket lines of screen writers who are striking over pay and employee reward.
Because of the strikes, the Golden Globes will not have a ceremony, just a press conference in which the winners will be revealed.
Brad Adgate, research director of the advertising firm Horizon Media, said: "The Golden Globes has always been a bellwether for the Oscars. Typically that means who's got a chance of winning. This year there's another layer on that, who's going to show up?"
NBC, which is the channel that broadcasts the Golden Globes in the US, wants to film the post-awards parties which are held by the film studios to replace the awards ceremony itself and a similar arrangement could be seen for the Oscars.
The Oscars are set for 24th February 2008 and will be the 80th Academy Awards event.
