Over 2,000 employees offered bike to work scheme A City law firm is starting a cycle to work scheme for its employees in a drive to encourage healthy living among staff.
Around 2,700 of a workforce of 3,600 at Eversheds will be eligible for the scheme, which is being run in conjunction with Halfords and offers a 30-40 per cent discount on the price of a bicycle.
Employees will have the discounted cost of the bike taken out of their salaries over a 12 month period, according to publication employee benefits.
The firm also hopes the initiative will help to boost its green credentials.
Helen Barton, HR reward adviser at Eversheds, said: "We're a global operation and obviously by promoting an alternative way that people can travel to and from work will have an impact on the environment and our carbon footprint."
Eversheds has offices in countries all over the world including Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
In 1999 the government introduced the Green Transport Plan, enabling employers to offer their staff the use of a tax-free bike up to the value of £1,000, spreading payments over 18 months.
