Prudential: Britain's workers 'lose sleep' over pensions
New research from the Prudential has revealed that over one in three working-age adults have lost sleep over retirement worries, particularly in the face of a rising bills, higher house prices and a general sector slowdown.

The study, Burned out Britain, focuses on the effects of retirement worries on work ethic and stress increase, with roughly 20 per cent of those surveyed working overtime or taking on an extra job to make their pension contributions larger.

However, Prudential also reported that 18 per cent of those interviewed said they did not believe in reducing their disposable income in favour of a more comfortable retirement.

The head of business development for pensions at Prudential, Julie Mulvanny, said: "When the pressures of the current short-term economic climate are added to the mix it is almost surprising that more of us are not lying awake at night worrying."

Recently, the Times reported the call by Paternoster to clamp down on "cash for pensions" schemes which buy pension scheme members out of their accounts for extra top-up payments.
