Report finds agency staff are exploited and paid less A new report has revealed that agency employees receive less pay and none of the benefits enjoyed by their permanent colleagues.
'Hard Work, Hidden Lives', from the Trade Union Congress' (TUC) Commission on Valuable Employment, has revealed that legal loopholes allow the sub-standard treatment of staff to go unpunished.
The report found that those who worked in construction, security, restaurants and care homes were the most likely to be exploited.
"We spoke to agency employees who worked long days and nights for less pay than their permanent colleagues and who received no paid holiday or sickness leave. We heard from construction workers who were injured at work but were not entitled to welfare protection," Belinda Earl, chief executive of Jaeger, told the Observer.
The research discovered that some employees had earned around £2 an hour working a 70 hour week and the TUC is urging for change.
With nearly seven million members, the TUC campaigns for fair pay and conditions of employment.
