RTE staff advised to strike over pensions Workers at RTE, a national broadcaster in Ireland, have been advised to strike following a row over their pension schemes.
Members of the unions Siptu and the National Union of Journalists are to meet this week to decide whether to hold a ballot over strike action or not.
Emma O'Kelly, chairwoman of the Dublin broadcasting branch of the NUJ, said: "We will be asking the 1,200 people to ballot and then we will ask their 600 colleagues to support it".
She added that the unions are not asking members to vote on strike action "just for the sake of it" but they feel that they have gone "as far as they can with talks".
Last Wednesday, 300 staff at RTE protested against their pension schemes situation and on Friday a letter was sent out to members asking them to attend the meeting this week.
RTE is a public service broadcaster and is a non-profit organisation.
The decision was backed by VSO, a charity which promotes volunteering to help reduce global poverty.
