Scottish civil servants to strike Scottish civil servants are to strike after a small 18-vote majority voted for the action following a breakdown in talks over an increase in pay.
The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) disagreed with the decision by the Scottish government to cap pay rises at two per cent, leading to "unprecedented" PCS strike action.
PCS Scottish government members voted 931 for the action, with 913 against in an overall turnout of 54 per cent.
The union is unhappy at the lack of a pay increase to match inflation and rising living and working costs in the country.
PCS Scottish secretary Eddie Reilly said: "In spite of daily pressures of rising food costs, travel, gas and electricity, PCS members in the Scottish government and Registers of Scotland have demonstrated the strength of their anger over the proposed pay cut."
Last week, Unison wrote to councillors to warn them of the risk of industrial action over workers' pay after similar demonstrations across the rest of the UK.
