An offer which has been put to the writers has been endorsed by the Writers Guild of America and it could mean that the Oscars ceremony will go ahead later this month after being threatened by the strike.
Patric Verrone, the Writers Guild of America, West president, said: "This is the best deal this guild has bargained for in 30 years after the most successful strike this guild has waged in 35 years.
"It's not all we deserve but as I told our members, this strike was about the future and this deal assures for us and for future generations of writers a share in the future."
A vote will be held on Tuesday to decide if the strike is officially declared over, which will mean writers can return to work on Wednesday.
The Writers Guild of America was established in 1933.
