Strike to go ahead 'if govt do not make concessions' The largest union in the country has announced that it will organise industrial action if the government does not revise its three-year NHS pay deal.
Unite revealed that it plans to hold a "work to rule" day on December 3rd as a reaction to the deal, which it believes is flawed.
David Fleming, the national officer for health at the union, said that ministers needed to make a number of concessions for the new deal to work, including the rate of pay being below the rate of inflation for two years and the understanding that the Pay Review Body will not be "abused" again.
He continued: "The government's strategy on the economy doesn't fit with its strategy on public sector pay. Our members voted to take action for the first time and the government should take serious notice."
Unite was created when Amicus merged with the Transport and General Workers Union in 2007 and now represents over two million members in both public and private sectors.
