Teachers threaten strike action Members of the NASUWT union are to be balloted on a work-to-rule and they will also vote on strike action for next January.
Sue Rogers, the honorary treasurer of NASUWT, said: "The national agreement is a success but we want that success to be felt in every school even if we have to drag every head, every governing body, every local authority representative kicking and screaming into obeying the law."
Ms Rogers added that the union is now giving notice that it will be balloting its members ahead of the possible January action unless "the government themselves urgently respond to the flagrant abuse of our statutory rights".
The possible action comes as claims are made that head teachers are not abiding to the new legislation which states teachers should be given half a day every week off for marking and lesson planning.
NASUWT is the largest union which represents teachers and head teachers in the UK.
