TUC: 3m workers fear job loss within the year
Over 3.3 million workers in the UK are not confident that they will still be in their job in a year's time, a recent YouGov poll has discovered.

The survey, commissioned by the Trade Union Congress (TUC), found that people working in medium-sized businesses were least confident in retaining their jobs over the next 12 months, with 18 per cent of staff in such organisations doubting their continuing employment.

Workers in Wales were identified as the most pessimistic about their situation with 20 per cent saying they were not very - or not at all - confident in retaining work, while employees in the east of England were most optimistic, with only 7 per cent stating the same.

TUC general secretary Brendan Barber stated that the poll findings showed the implications of the current economic situation.

He added: "These findings add to the growing pressure on the government and economic policy-makers to put growth first by doing all they can to restore confidence and boost investment."

Last week, Mr Barber expressed his dismay over regular reports of unfair dismissal from low-paid and female-dominated sectors of the economy.
