TUC calls for better understanding of workplace stress
The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has stated that workplace stress needs to be tackled by more rigorous enforcement of Health and Safety Executive (HSE) management standards.

Research jointly funded by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, HSE and Investors in People has recently outlined 12 key management behaviors to managing stress at work.

TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said: "While this research is interesting and useful, the sad fact is that more and more people are having their health damaged by stress in the workplace."

He added that the key to changing behaviour is a strong regulatory framework supported by support, education and enforcement.

It was also mentioned that stress should be treated in the same way as other workplace hazards.

According to HSE statistics, stress is the highest single cause of workplace ill-health and it estimates the 530,000 people reported that they were suffering from depression, stress or anxiety because of their work.
