TUC: Pensions "fair and proper" in public sector Following the release of a report by the Pensions Policy Institute (PPI) today, the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has criticised those who selectively quote findings to suit their own agendas.
TUC general secretary Brendan Barber stated that an "increasingly vocal group" were privy to misusing the findings of the PPI's report to criticise public sector pensions with much of the "propaganda" levelled at them being due to prejudice and not fact.
Mr Barber added that the critics were inconsistent and unable to logically attack the government's commitment to the sector yet complain about the decline found with private sector pensions.
He continued: "The problem is not fair and proper public sector pensions, but the retreat by private sector employers from their responsibilities.
"The solution is to level-up, not strip away pensions from vital public servants."
Yesterday, Mr Barber commented on the latest unemployment figures as worrying news and the next major hurdle for the government, especially after years of taking employment for granted.
