Underground staff in 24-hour strike
Workers on the Metropolitan Line of the London Underground have begun a 24-hour strike today in a dispute over staff transfers, it has been reported.

The BBC stated that at 0530 BST, 70 members of the Rail and Maritime Transport (RMT) union walked out from their posts after five workers had been informed of a station change, even though several had moved to different accommodation to be closer to work.

It added that a spokesman for Transport for London said that the strike was unnecessary as some parts of the network needed staff, with the five being moved from stations with enough workers.

The news provider also noted that no stations were closed due to the strike.

Last month, the sacking of a colleague saw 100 RMT workers walking out of positions in Elephant and Castle, Charing Cross and Lambeth North after staff member Jerome Bowes allegedly struck a member of the public on New Year's Eve in self-defence, the London Daily News reported.
