Union delegates to meet over pay decision Delegates from SIPTU are to meet in Dublin in order to decide whether to begin talks on a new national wage agreement.
It is thought that the delegates will support the motion of entering into talks of pay and employee reward in Ireland.
A report recently published by the union Unite is expected to fuel the pay talks as it revealed that private sector wages in Ireland are now 25 per cent lower than the average wages in the top ten EU member states.
Pay increases are set to be at the centre of the talks and the unions are also likely to discuss legislation on agency workers and union recognition. Unions are looking for better measures to stop exploitation of agency workers in the country.
SIPTU represents over 200,000 workers from all areas of employment across the Irish economy. It was established in 1990 when two unions merged into one.
The government's launch of a public consultation into service charges, gratuities, cover charges and tips will include proposals to make tipping fair, it has been revealed.
